About Us

AssistAble Living was started by two sisters who are closely involved in supporting their own family as they age. Between us, we help care for our parents and our uncle - and we've seen first-hand how ageing brings both practical challenges and emotional shifts.

We've also experienced the frustration of trying to help loved ones who are fiercely independent, resistant to assistance, or simply not ready to accept change. What we've learned is that support works best when it feels enabling rather than imposed.

Why 'AssistAble Living'?

The name came naturally. AssistAble Living - able to assist, and able to live. Two ideas in one name. It captures exactly what we believe: that the right kind of help doesn't diminish a person, it enables them. With the right support, older adults remain able. Able to live independently. Able to make their own choices. Able to stay in the home they love.

We wanted a name that felt like the opposite of institutional. Something that said: we're here to help you stay capable, not to take over.

Our Approach

We focus on the small, thoughtful changes that make a real difference. Organising a home more intuitively, adjusting routines, offering the right kind of support at the right time - these things help people stay engaged, mobile, and confident.

We believe ageing well isn't just about safety. It's about staying connected, maintaining identity, and continuing to feel useful and involved for as long as possible.

We understand resistance

Many older adults resist assistance even when support could genuinely help. That resistance usually comes from a desire to hold onto independence and self-respect - not from denial or stubbornness.

Because we've navigated this within our own family, we approach every situation gently and collaboratively. Our aim is never to force change, but to work alongside families in ways that feel respectful and manageable.

What we are, and aren't

AssistAble Living is a non-medical service.

We focus on practical, home-based support within clear boundaries. When needs fall outside our scope, we'll always be honest and help you find the most appropriate care.

Our wider circle

Our other sister is a paediatrician and her partner a virologist - which means family dinners are lively, and we have a very clear understanding of where medical care ends and practical home support begins.
